Defining Stress

How the Earth defines stress:

An earthquake is caused by the shaking of the ground due to an abrupt shift of rock along a fracture in the Earth, called a fault. Within seconds, an earthquake releases stress that has slowly accumulated within the rock, sometimes over hundreds of years. Most earthquakes are caused by slow movements deep in the Earth that push against the Earth’s brittle, relatively thin outer layer, causing the rocks to break suddenly.  To see more…

How Engineers define Stress:

The concept of stress originated from the study of strength and failure of solids. The stress field is the distribution of internal “tractions” that balance a given set of external tractions and body forces.  To see more…

We are each given a story, a story called life.

Life pushes us to our extremes on many levels, emotional, physical, mental all at different times and on some occasions simultaneously. I have to believe when we go through different stages or roads of life they all are for a greater purpose. This feeling of faith has always brought me through to a brighter side.

We all have been given the freedom of free will and the freedom of choice. Many of the decision I have made have lead me to the place I am today. Do you ever wonder about all the decision you have made and how they are all connected? Do you ever look back 10 years ago at one decision you made and realize it changed the entire outcome of your life today? I have, and it quite an amazing story.

I am starting to realize I want to share our story with the world. It is an amazing story of hope, faith, troubles and mistakes, forgiveness, and ultimately the love of a family.

If you could title your life story what would it be?

The Simple Life

Genius of simplicity:

  • riding toys are motorcycles, race cars or huge boats
  • drum sticks turn into microphones
  • a crayon creates create another world
  • watching a bug is discovering another life form
  • the vision of going to the moon is within reach

Above is a snippet of Dear Sons world from this weekend.  The eyes of a child are so brilliant and imaginative.  We complicate our world to extremes so many times for so many unneeded scenarios, it is refreshing to just sit back and listen to the refreshing genius of a simpler life.

Lunchtime

This morning while sitting around the breakfast table eating our cereal, we turned on the weather channel to see what was in store for today.  Our goal was to see the days forecast in order to know if Dear Son would need pants or shorts when dressing for school this morning, however I gained a lot more then expected from the conversation with Dear Son.

Here is how the conversation went with Dear Son and myself…

Son: What are you watching?
Me: The weather to see what it is going to be like outside today.
Son: What did they say?
Me: Well, it is going to be sunny today, but a bit chilly so you need pants for school.
Son: But it is cloudy outside, not sunny!?! There are lots of clouds everywhere…
Me: You are correct.

Do we really get so consumed in needing others to tell us what we need and how life is, that we forget to just look around, forgetting to observe the obvious and observe our surroundings?

I was so consumed in believing the TV and a weather man could tell me all I needed to know, that I did not even use my own given instincts to see what was around me to tell me it was cloudy.  If only we could get back to the basics of believing in ourselves and the talents we were given from birth, our instincts and our ability to observe life would be much simpler.

Inspiration

What inspires you?

is it music in general? a particular song? a clear blue crisp sky? the wind in your face? feeling the sand on your toes as you walk across a beautiful white beach? children? homeless people? the joy of giving? the need to do more in life…

Everyone is inspired by something in life, that is what gives us all the will to get up each morning and move forward with life.  Be it fact, that each individual is inspired at different levels and different means is what makes us all different and unique.  In the same light, inspiration can come from different sources at different moments during the day for different reasons.  This morning on my commute into work while listening to Sirius Satellite Radio station Spirit 66, I was inspired by a song titled “Set the World on Fire” by Britt Nicole.

I was thinking about my vision for the future and all my Dear Son has been through in his little three years of life before we got him.  As I was thinking the thought came into my head, ‘I want to help hungry children.’ Not even 5 seconds after that thought came into my mind the following verse played from the above listed song

I wanna feed the hungry children
And reach across the farthest land
And tell the broken there is healing
And mercy in the Father’s hands

What an amazing inspiration and message for my morning commute.  I believe I am on the right track in my search and I am being lead down the path I am suppose to be.  Do I know if this is the answer? No – only time will tell.

Define Vision

Risk (game)

Image via Wikipedia

everyone has a different definition of the word vision. some i am sure see it as the exact meaning of “seeing through ones eyes.” others possibly can define it as dreams or supernatural realms they have experienced. still more can see it as a future tense word that involves present action. this current action requiring soul seeking, planning and potentially risk.

i am seeking the latter definition of vision.

as i researched a ‘risk’ quote to add to this post the theme that i continued to see repeated was the greatest risk of all in life is the risk of “doing nothing.” this was quite eye-opening as here one of my greatest struggle is with risk.  when in reality am i really faulting myself and my family for not pushing for my dreams and doing ‘nothing?’

clean your plate

the other day our family was eating dinner and our Dear Son whom is almost three and a half asked if he could have dessert.  Of course he hadn’t eaten hardly any of his veggies or meal so the answer was “you first need to clean your plate.” Dear Son looked at me and asked, “can i have a napkin?”

it took us a while, but we finally figured out when we said to him “clean his plate” he took it in the litterial sense of cleaning.  it was quite cute and we all got a good hardy laugh out of it.

to see life again through the eyes of a child growing up and adventuring, learning, experimenting and loving is an amazing journey my family is just beginning and i’m thrilled and passionate to wake each day to learn what will be next.

do you have a story through the eyes of a child?

Vision and Passion

I am coming...

today i welcome you all to my search for vision, passion and greater knowledge.  Up until today this search was only shared between select individuals and close friends whom have now urged me to extend my vision and passion with the world.  By doing this I hope to widen my frame of knowledge and ideas and grow my passion and vision for life even greater.

Key Questions
What drives you to get up every morning?
Do you have a passion that you never pursued?
When you drive to work in the morning in traffic do you let people over in front of you?
Do you get mad if you have to sit in traffic?
What do you day dream about?
If you could have one job in the world without any limitations what would it be?
