Valley of Fire State Park Nevada Petroglyphs

72/365: Desert Pictionary

Petroglyphs (also called rock engravings) are pictogram and logogram images created by removing part of a rock surface by incising, picking, carving, and abrading.

As we followed the spiral petroglyphs a short way up the trail we found a natural water tank which was filled with water.  The last time it had rained in the desert was about a month before our trip.  The natural water tank is able to keep water for such a long period of time because it is primary located in the shade between two canyons.  The two canyons filter the water into the tank when it rains.
