327/365: Treasure Falls Colorado
Treasure Falls is a waterfall located off U.S. Highway 160 about 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. The falls are named after a local legend of a treasure of gold on the mountain the falls plunges from. It is a short and moderately steep hike of about 15 minutes and 300 feet of elevation gain will bring you to the base of the falls, where there is a foot bridge for viewing.
When we visited Treasure Falls it had just snowed the night before and was still snowing as we hiked up the trail. The scenery was beautiful with the fresh snow and it was cold. The falls were partially frozen and there were huge ice chunks falling causing huge ‘booms’ to be heard throughout the valley.
